Whether you are an experienced knitter, or whether you are eager to learn how to knit, the Friends of the Rutland Public Library is offering an opportunity for knitters to gather weekly, in daytime and/or evening groups to "make the world a better place a stitch at a time." By helping each other, experienced knitters will be helping novice knitters gain experience, and together we will be creating knitted items to give away to those in need.

In her book entitled
Knitting for Peace: Make the World a Better Place One Stitch at a Time, Betty
Christiansen
explains how knitters have been helping people all over the world in amazing ways. She shares the stories of some of the many charitable organizations that knit for peace -- each with their own unique project.
Christiansen
says that "knitters work a powerful magic when they knit for others." They can "build bridges, help heal wounds, offer creature comfort -- create peace, however small, and in whatever way, for others and for themselves." Telling us about the variety of different charitable groups that knit for others,
Christiansen
highlights the groups that receive the knitted gifts as well as the simplicity of the projects.
If you are intersted, please call 508-886-4108 or sign up at the library.
